RAM Road Trip Part 2

After picking up my Yellowfin 7000 Southerner at the massive manufacturing plant at Coomera on the Gold Coast I continuedmy Ram Road Trip on to Brisbane picking up my Hobie Compass Duo at Sunstate Hobie.

These guys have all their Hobie models and accessories set out well and are the best guys to talk to in QLD if your interested in picking up a Hobie.

Then it was on the road heading north with my Yellowfin boat on the back and Hobie on the roof all the way to Kepple Bay Marina. My Hobie Compass Mirage is the perfect pedal platform for these shallow reef areas. It means if I see surface action I can quietly and quickly approach to get that stickbait out there. The stick bait got crunched and its a battle to get the Queenfish to the Kayak. Queenfish are lightning fast and strip line before jumping airborne around your kayak. One minute there in front of the Hobie the next there behind you. They expend all of there energy so its important to have them out of the water for a minimal time. A quick picture then send them on their way. Queenfish are not the best eating fish when cooked, but sliced fresh and put in white vinegar, with chilli, ginger, garlic, onion, soy sauce, lime juice, and sugar and left to marinade in the fridge for at least a few hours is one of the best seafood dishes you can eat. Nummus with Queenfish !!!

The Hobie’s steering assembly and kick up rudder system makes it easy for me to chase this speedster.

And boy is this Hobie Compass impressively nimble. I can pedal flat out hands free and also turn rapidly while hooked up. This Gold Spot Trevally sure gave me some golden moments on my light Shimano spin gear when I hopped out in my Hobie around magical Middle Percy Island. The Percy Group of Islands are a lot bigger than I imagined them to be. There are so many sheltered bays to park your boat and launch your kayak for a fish. Having the big power cat Elysium to tie my boat and Hobie up to made things very easy and the hot fishing spots could be easily accessed in safety.

It wont be long and I will be back in the Ram Laramie 1500 truck heading north for more adventures. It sure has been a pleasure to drive and towing my 7000 Yellowfin plate boat with all our fishing and camera gear on board has been a breeze for the Rams 5.7 Hemi engine.

More action next week when our Ram Road Trip continues.
